Kallusive’s Leave Your Mark

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

On Saturday, I rolled down to Astor Place to get a hair cut before checking out Remix Hotel at SAE (School of Audio Engineering) in Manhattan. It was still early, so I popped into Rubber Sole on Broadway. It’s one of the last of the “urban fashion boutiques” that are giving way to major chain retailers along the strip from Astor Place and Broadway all the way down to Canal Street.

There are a few new ones that have since opened below Canal, where the rents are probably a bit cheaper than they are in Soho.

Anyway, I found this cool t-shirt from Kallusive that I thought would be perfect to cruise into Remix Hotel wearing. Well, maybe not so perfect, because the turntable on the front looks like a Numark or Stanton. My friends in the Pioneer demonstration area joked that I needed to leave the room.

You can get the Music Maestro shirt online from Kallusive.com. They have an entire line of themed t-shirts like this one. So get’em while they’re hot. I did.

In the pics below, it’s hard to make out the writing on the back. It says:

from the backyard barbeques to the hottest night clubs

everything is perfect and laced with clarity…

beats thumping, drinks flowing, vocals blaring,

the DJ spinning on the turntables is in control.

mixing and cutting with the precision of a surgeon.

the moood is set…

one wrong move or sound can kill the vibe…

but when sounds comes together in unity,

everything is perfect and laced with clarity…

Dusko Justic’s “Feel Different” 2-year anniversary party

Dusko Justic at Leopard Lounge

On Friday, May 15th, I hit Dusko Justic’s “Feel Different” 2-year anniversary party at the Leopard Lounge on 2nd Avenue in New York City. Dusko has been running this party at different locations over the course of its lifetime, and it seems as if the Leopard Lounge is a great spot for this intimate affair. House music mixed with a lively, hands in the air, fist pumping and hookah smoking crowd makes for hours of fun. There’s no pretentiousness here…not even a door charge.

Besides Dusko, DJs for the night included the venerable Davidson Ospina, who’s Ospina Digital label is on a tear right now, and Oscar Poche–the workhorse of house music who, despite the downturn after the dotcom crash mixed with 9/11, has seemed to hold his own.

Hilary Radley Pearl Faux Patent Leather Trench-Coat Jessica Bendig looked fabulous in a faux patent leather trench-coat, like this one I found on Bluefly.com. I’m waiting for someone to send me a photo of Jessica in the coat and will post that once I receive it. I’d taken a quick snapshot, but it came out blurry and wasn’t publishable (sigh).

DJs love Insight Bikinis

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Are you shopping for that suit for your trip to Ibiza? Need something sexy for Goa, Rio De Janeiro or the French Riviera? Want to catch the eye of that superstar DJ mixing it up, while you dance on a bass bin? I think Insight definitely has the suit for you.

Like any respectable DJ blog on the Internet, we’ve got to cover (or uncover) just about anything that has to do with DJ culture. Surely we’d be neglecting our readers if we didn’t at least show important advances in fashion (yeah, right!). As we’re an equal opportunity blog, we’ll hit you with some men’s suits over the next few weeks. For now, we’re pushing the female Lycra.

This morning, I was thinking that we here at Netmix would dread it if we were deemed as being (a) irresponsible to our readers, and (b) catering to Neanderthal males who care more about tweaking tracks in Abelton, sequencing in Logic and arguing over why p2p should be legal, than sipping Coronas from a beach chair at the pool at The National while checking out the glistening skin of girls with names like Bianca and Alexandra getting in their morning swim.

Of course, my girlfriend, Missy, is going to ask me, “is this all really necessary? My answer to that would be, well…YES! I just hope she doesn’t show her new boss this blog today. Doh!

Okay, enough of the preparation. These bikinis from Insight are a great example of street wear with bright color palettes gone sexy. They are available at Karmaloop.com.

iconDJs sure love turntables! Despite all things going digital nowadays, we can keep the turntable close to our hearts by slapping one on the wrist. This watch by Fluid has both leather and steel wristbands. It’s $70 at Karmaloop.com.
