Mark Levin Show Lie about Obama Selective Service Registration

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Tonight, I was driving home on the Long Island Expressway from work, listening to right-wing talk radio, just to see what kind of lies that conservative right-wing radio are trying to spread. On tonight’s Mark Levin show on New York’s WABC Radio 770, a caller phoned in to dispute Barack Obmama’s recent statement that he had registered for selective service (conscription) after he graduated from high school in 1979.

That caller and others to follow all tried to discredit Barack Obama, calling him a liar. And, Mark Levin when along with it, without checking the facts. His show also went so far as to publish this lie on their web site at http://www.marklevinshow.com. I have provided  a screen shot below for accuracy.

I was so disgusted, that I pulled off the highway and pulled out my laptop to check the facts for myself. So, here I am now, sitting in a Kentucky Fried Chicken/A&W restaurant furiously typing away.

I learned when conscription was reinstated in 1980, ALL U.S. CITIZENS BORN AFTER JANUARY 1, 1960 were required to register. It did not matter that Obama graduated in 1979. He still had to register because he was born on August 4, 1961.

Here is the quote from Wikipedia’s entry on the reinstatement of conscription:

Post-1980 draft registration

In 1980, Congress re-instated the requirement that young men register with the Selective Service System. At that time it was required that all males, born on or after January 1, 1960 register with the Selective Service System.

Just another right wing radio smear campaign to discredit Obama. Can you believe anything Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh or Laura Ingram spew out of their venomous mouths? I certainly can’t. The problem is, they get away with this and are not held accountable for the erroneous information they spread over the public airwaves.

I am not a proponent of censorship by any means, however, Mark Levin must be held accountable for spreading this absolute lie over the airwaves. It’s disgusting that he can get away with spreading false information and nothing happens to him. He should be thrown off the air for this. At least suspended for a month and his pay be donated to a charity of Obama’s choice.

I say to my fellow Democrats and Obama supporters. Please call WABC in New York City and complain about Mark Levin. Let’s see what happens if we all get together and shout this man down from his protective perch behind the mic where he thinks he’s not accountable for anything he says.

Hypocritical Republican Talking Points

Friday, September 5th, 2008

One of the fundamental reasons why many Americans (Democrat or Republican) do not like the Republican party is because of the hypocritical viewpoints constantly driven home by right wing controlled radio and Fox News. Time after time, day after day and comment after comment, there are some on the right in this country who love to slam people for not living the way they think they should live. But, when they want something to go their way, they will defend that same position–even it it means flat out changing their opinion on a minute-by-minute basis. Talk about flip flop!

I, for one, am personally disgusted with the lying, cheating, stealing and make ourselves wealthier while everyone else suffers Republican Party. I was disgusted the day George Bush took office. And now, I’m even more disgusted that a bunch of people are rallying around someone they’ve NEVER MET IN THEIR LIVES. They are saying that she is the savior of the Republican party, in order to push her a heartbeat away from the Presidency of the United States of America. This is not a movie. This is not a soap opera. This is our reality today and it is despicable.

Sarah Palin gives one slanderous, vicious speech, filled with complete lies and falsehoods. All while the red, white and blue of the American flag waves in the background. Is this what American has come to? To me, it’s more of the same.

American politicians on both sides are guilty. It’s my opinion that the worst of the lot are on the Republican side of the equation. They are a bunch of self-absorbed, half-assed politicians so desperately wanting to both hang onto power and their money, that they will SAY or DO anything to put themselves into the highest office in the land. Why? So they can drill until we have nothing left in this hemisphere, because they are too lazy to try something new. McCain has voted against many new energy policies. Obama has a vision to transform the country and lead the world on new energy policy.

When we talk about restoring American principles and values to the White House, we’re now talking about putting someone with literally NO FOREIGN POLICY EXPERIENCE a heart-beat away from running the free world? Are we crazy? Talk about being the laughingstock of the world. If anything happened to McCain, we’d want Palin going up against the Axis of Evil? Making the decision to go into Pakistan? Or, negotiate on nuclear issues with Europe vs. Iran? Give me a break! She has NO experience on the national or international stage. What does she know about nuclear policy? She studied journalism, not political science. She didn’t even have a passport until she decided to go visit the Alaskan National Guard in Kuwait after 40-plus years. It took her that long to visit another country? Okay…I’ll make that 24-years, give or take a year and give Palin the benefit of the doubt. There are thousands of young people who study abroad today. I’ve been to more foreign countries than Palin. And that does not include Canada, who she gave a $40 Billion gas contract to for a pipeline. Talk about shipping American jobs overseas? She shipped them right next door.

Maybe we don’t have an American company that can do the work. I don’t know. I’d sure like to find out why did this job go to a Canadian company? I love Canada, but now their dollar is equal to hours. There shouldn’t be any real savings that would prevent us from keeping that contract in the U.S.

Listen to Bill O’Reilly, a hack of a journalist and probably the biggest right wing puppet ever (yes, even bigger than Rush Limbaugh), say that it’s not okay for Jamie Lynn Spears to have a baby (whose family can support her, thank you very much), but it’s perfectly fine for Palin’s daughter to get pregnant at 17. Because it’s simply just a “personal matter.” Wasn’t there a child rape law passed somewhere? When was it okay for a mother to get on stage and state that she is proud of her daughter for having sex before she’s legally supposed to? When I was younger, I remember my first love asking me to wait until AFTER she was 18 to have sex. I respected that and waited for her to reach legal age. If I didn’t, I could have been arrested. But Palin’s daughter and Levi get a pass by the Christian right? The hypocrisy is outrageous.

Dick Morris should be the last person to talk about sexism. Wasn’t he the one caught whispering national secrets over pillow talk to his mistress? And we listen to this clown? People give him the time of day. Why?

I know that Netmix is supposed to be about music and other stuff…but we can’t just sit here and say nothing. It would be irresponsible to have this forum and not inform our readers of our opinions and viewpoint. More dance music blogs and web sites should do the same. And if they don’t get involved, for one reason or another, then don’t complain when more of your rights are stripped away by Republican right wing censors who want to ban books (and possibly music). Remember, Palin once wanted to ban books from her local library and fired the librarian because she didn’t get her way (the librarian was hired back after a public outcry). Is this the kind of censorship you want a hair-trigger away from being the leader of the free world? Not me, that’s for sure.

I also ask, what is Sarah Palin’s position on file sharing? Have her kids ever downloaded music for free? Have her kids ever illegally shared music files with anyone else? Inquiring minds want to know. If so, what did Palin do about it? She has five kids (one recent). One out of the older four must have an iPod, right? Who’s asking the tough questions?

Have you looked at McCain’s Economic Plan on his web site? Have you compared that with Obama’s? The democratic candidates policy proposals are so specific and so well thought out, while McCain’s are pretty much a few paragraphs of hokey crap.

C’mon people. We are smarter than this! It’s not that I am enthralled by Obama. It’s that we believe he is truthful and respectful of our intelligence as Americans to make informed, real decisions based on the issues. Not on a popularity contest. The Republicans make every election about culture, not issues. This is right out of the Karl Rove playbook. Fool me once, okay. Fool me twice, I should be ashamed.

McCain is supposed to be a “maverick,” but he totally CRUMBLED to the Christian religious right wing of his party at the last minute, so he would be able to be able to have his chance–a final chance I might ad–to win the White House.

I say to John McCain: you can’t even fight your own party, how can I expect you to fight for me on the world stage? You talk about fighting special interests, but you’re a sucker cause the Right got to you. You put someone who doesn’t even believe what you believe on your ticket! And you’re telling me that you deserve the chance to ascend to the Presidency of the United States, based on all of this? Then, you go on national television and try to sell it to the American people, like some used car salesman. You wanted Lieberman, but now here’s this shiny new, more expensive car with a higher interest rate that will have you locked in for years in a deal you never should have made in the first place.

I was willing to listen to you make your case, but you have lost all credibility with me. I hope and pray the people of our great country can see through the politics of the same and choose Obama/Biden in 60 days.

Thanks to Jon Stewart and The Daily Show for putting this all in perspective.

Barack Obama DNC 2008 Acceptance Speech

If you hadn’t noticed, we kind of support the Democrats here on this blog. Sure, Netmix is supposed to be about a lot of things not necessarily politically connected. But, we just couldn’t resist the temptation to promote DNC speeches and help to spread Obama’s message that “8 is enough.”

I thought this speech was one of the most inspirational moments I have ever witnessed in American politics. Experience or not, Barack Obama is a thoughtful, intelligent man with a vision for where we need to go and how we need to do it. He represents the next generation of our country who will build and execute a different path than what we’ve seen in the past.

Having hope and criticizing those who have been a train-wreck these past few years certainly is NOT unpatriotic. It is patriotic to say that what we’ve seen is enough. Enough partisanship. Enough war in Iraq. Enough oil. Enough layoffs. Enough of the America worker being treated poorly.

Of course…now an ad from our sponsor…lol. Heck we’re a small business that needs that capital gains cut too!

Daddy Yankee Endorses John McCain…WHAT!?!

That’s right!

You didn’t read the title wrong and no, this is not a joke.

Daddy Yankee has publicly endorsed John McCain.

Over the weekend, the presidential candidate John McCain made a campaign stop at Central High School, a dominantly Latino school located in Phoenix, Arizona. While attempting to encourage the group of students to “be involved”, McCain softly acknowledges the real reason any Latino student would stand to listen to him. He begins to introduce his “special friend”, whom he describes as an “all American success story” and list this guest’s credentials, but falls short of mentioning the house with the white picket fence and the little dog in the backyard.

Right after miserably failing to make a joke out of Yankee’s hit song “Gasolina” and the rise of gas prices, McCain introduces Daddy Yankee to a number of screaming and excited Latino high school students.

Now beside the obvious shock of Yankee endorsing John McCain, there is only one thing I find very curious about this whole video. Right as Daddy Yankee makes his greeting, he is quickly interrupted by a man in a blue collared shirt (obviously a man who works for the McCain camp). After stopping Yankee’s speech for about 20 seconds, Yankee gets back on the mic and proceeds to continue his speech. But alas, Yankee is once again interrupted by the presidential candidate himself. McCain, quickly grabs Yankee’s arm and directs him to the group of students behind him.

Yankee, always being the crowd pleaser, proceeds to greet every single one of the Latino students. Once he does finally get to speak, Yankee begins to slowly state how he chooses “him [McCain] as the best candidate”.

Now I don’t know about you, but I just find this whole scenario a bit odd. I mean, whats the deal with all the interruptions! If your going to bring out someone to endorse you, wouldn’t it be a good idea to let them TALK!

And honestly, how much did they pay Daddy Yankee for that endorsement? Or did they threaten to revoke his passport or something. I dunno, maybe it’s just me. But I don’t really picture McCain drinking a Corona and shouting CAPICU at the Domino table.

McCain Rebuffs Critics as Obama Defends Patriotism

Monday, June 30th, 2008

NYTimes.com - John McCain responded to attacks on the relevance of his military service as Barack Obama addressed persistent rumors about his loyalties to the country.

The Netmix point of view:

I usually don’t comment on this kind of politico stuff, but I thought it was interesting enough to blog about.

Funny how the Republican’s get offended when someone questions their favorite son’s military service, but they think it’s okay to attack Senator Kerry’s “swiftboat” service. Can anyone say the word “double standard”?

No doubt about John McCain’s war record, but why is that off limits when the Republican fear machine conjur up images of terrorism by using Barack Obama’s middle name, “Hussein.” As far as I know, Barack’s heritage is about as close to the Middle East and Persia as mine is to China and or Russia.

There should be no reason why McCain shouldn’t be scrutinized and vetted just like Kerry was questioned 4-years ago.  Yes, Kerry didn’t spend 5 self-imposed years in an enemy prison. That’s a huge difference and it should absolutely be respected.

But former Gen. Wesley Clark raises an interesting question: How does John McCain’s military service equate to his ability to govern the nation? Just because someone spent 5 long, hard years in the hands of the enemy doesn’t make him an automatic shoo-in for prez. It’s not that simple, or Barack would be easing his way into the White House with little effort.

We know what McCain stood for when he turned down his own release. That shows guts and fortitude and is certainly relevant to his character as a soldier and man, but it has little to do with governing the country. What’s wrong with asking the question? Are you less of a Patriot because you raise questions? That’s what the right wing in this country would have you think.
