Okay, we love the DIY video. Felix the Housecat is saying “*&#@” the record labels, time to ‘do it yourself’ baby! The track is “Kickdrum.” Bomb the bass, call it what you want—it’s big beats and distortion gallore. Just what you’d expect from a track called “Kickdrum.” We’re definitely diggin this one. It’s out this summer on Felix’s forthcoming digital thingy, He Was King. Although we heard you can get it here.

Update 12/14: It seems that Universal Music Group has asked YouTube to disable the ability to embed videos on third party web sites like this one. Since UMG wants to control the distribution of their content, we will no longer be able to post UMG videos on our web site via YouTube.
Instead of deleting or changing this post, we’re going to leave this here so you can see how UMG is forcing you to go to YouTube to watch their videos, instead of being able to view them where and when you want. Just another control tactic to force you, the consumer, to kneel at the behest of the almighty Universal Music Group. Another reason to support independent music.
We were reminiscing with friends about the impact Freestyle had on dance music from the mid-80’s to the early 90’s. With that in mind, we thought we’d dig into the YouTube vault and see what we could come up with. Here are 5 fun tracks from that period. We dug up Noel, Debbie Deb, TKA, George Lamond and Sweet Sensation.
Do you ever just have one of those days? Or, as in my case, a solid 20 of them in a row? Take 2 Psapp videos and call me in the morning. I dare you to not smile at the bleeps and bloops.
I’m sorry, I think my head just exploded. NME reports that Thom Yorke (that’s Radiohead’s frontman to you, if you live under a rock) was kind enough to lend backing vocals to Bjork’s forthcoming single, “Nattura,” due out in the U.S. on October 20th. The song is named for an Icleandic environmental protection organization that Bjork has supported in the past, and it’s not the first collaboration between Yorke and Bjork (who I shall henceforth refer to as B’yorke). The pair dueted on “I’ve Seen it All,” from 2000’s Selmasongs, the soundtrack to the brilliant but supremely depressing musical, “Dancer in the Dark.”
As a fan of both artists, I’m eager to hear what these crazy kids concoct. Now, back to sewing my swan dress Halloween costume.
How’s this for nerdcore? At the request of NASA, London-based rapper the Metro recently recorded a track devoted entirely to astrobiology, in order to make the tricky subject more easy to understand. So how’d it feel to be essentially dubbed the nerdiest rapper in the land? “Being commissioned by NASA to produce the ‘Astrology Rap’ was a great compliment,” says Metro.
Check out the video below. I can’t help but think that this is something my best friend and I could have cooked up in our youth (she’s literally an astrophysics genius; I’m a nerdcore rap alum).
